Path Finding (Part2)

Made a lot of progress on path finding. It works pretty well on open field, but does get congested a bit with big groups in narrow chokes. Here is a gif demo:

One of the things that I will be implementing is the ability to give commands to allies in your party. If you got any suggestions on how the controls should work for it, I am happy to listen.

  1. Easier said than done but it would be nice to see some personality in the commanded.

I think more generic commands like "Focus on defense", "Protect me", "Advance" and "Retreat" can be nice. Imagine a Tigergirl receiving a retreat command and still finishing her last opponent before retreating or a more scared girl "advancing" by being close to you (or just running like crazy and not attacking very effectively).

Hard to do, even harder to teach players how to use and a challenge even to more seasoned players BUT actually great for commanding groups is command priorities. Remember the Gambit system on Final Fantasy XXII? Basically just commands on how units should behave in combat but there could be more than ten lines of command(not writing commands, but predetermined like "attack weakest foe" or "Heal if HP under 50%"). in the first line goes an absolute priority (like "revive fallen ally") and the last line could be something like "attack closest enemy on sight" ... if people think to build it they can make a group be complementary and only act in turning moments. Hard to explain how it works.

Targeting enemies by looking at them and pressing a number correspondent to determined girl and letting the girl face the opponent in her fashion can be nice, specially if you can "talk" to the girl about how she should behave (Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen, for instance). Room to personality once again.

A more tatical (boring and annoying) option is to have formations and make the group advance following you ... on open fields this make a lot of sense (still too "tatical" for my blood). If the group is twenty plus and to face 100+ formations can be an idea (call it Heroine Warriors and sell to Koei/Omega then)

This is what comes just top of mind. There are probably about fifty ways already done before and a possible universe of good five hundred new ways avaliable to this aspect of the Tenth Art.
